Montauk Club No. 3
Montauk Club No. 3
This is a section of column reclaimed from the Montauk Club on 8th Ave. in Park Slope. The clubhouse was built between October 1889 and May 1891 and designed by Francis H. Kimball, a renowned architect at the time who designed many buildings still standing. The building is in the Venetian Gothic style, modeled after the Palazzo Santa Sofia in Venice and uses extensive terra cotta detailing, like this section of column. Decorations around the building depict moments from the Montauk tribe of Native Americans that club was named after. The upper floors of the building are now condominiums, but the club remains on the first two floors.
