PHILOSOPHY
Prospect Woodworks approaches millwork as both structure and language—shaping how people move through and feel at home in a space. Ashok and Jessie Childs have been making things together since a fourth-grade woodshop class first set them on a shared path toward craft. Today, from their studio in the Brooklyn Navy Yard, they work directly with clients from first conversation to final installation, partnering with architects and designers who value the same level of care and rigor.
PRINCIPALS
ASHOK CHILDS
Ashok studied printmaking, welding, and foundry at the Boston Museum School and Massachusetts College of Art; color theory at the Munson Williams Proctor Institute; and English and American Studies at Hamilton College. His training continued through apprenticeships with luthier Stewart Port, Boger Woodworking, and South Mountain Company. After establishing a custom furniture and millwork practice in Marin County, he relocated to New York in 2008, where he has contributed to projects for leading architects and designers.
JESSIE VOGELSON CHILDS
Jessie studied cultural studies at Connecticut College and earned an M.A. in Film and Television Production from the University of Bristol. Her early career spanned public service, journalism, and documentary filmmaking, including roles with the White House Press Office and National Geographic, before producing and directing projects for major studios and broadcasters. She later transitioned to millwork design and project management, bringing a narrative sensibility and rigorous attention to detail to Prospect Woodworks.
