PHILOSOPHY
Prospect Woodworks is an independent Brooklyn millwork studio creating enduring interiors for the entire home. Founded by Ashok and Jessie Childs in 2018, the studio brings together traditional cabinetmaking, contemporary fabrication, and an unusually personal approach to every commission. We believe a home should be shaped with continuity—from kitchen to library, dressing room to entry—and built by people who remain accountable to it long after installation. Our purpose is simple: to create a body of work worthy of being lived with for generations. Five principles guide every room, every detail, and every commission.
I. A SINGULAR LANGUAGE FOR THE HOME
Prospect Woodworks creates millwork for every room of the home in one continuous language of material, proportion, and craft. Kitchens, libraries, mudrooms, dressing rooms, and the spaces between them are conceived as a complete interior rather than a collection of separate installations. Each piece is designed around the rituals of daily life and made to become more meaningful with use. Wood is a living material, chosen for the way it settles, develops character, and belongs more deeply to a home over time.
II. CRAFTED IN BROOKLYN, MADE TO ENDURE
Every piece is made in our workshop at the Brooklyn Navy Yard by a close-knit team of craftspeople. Our work draws upon the traditions of fine cabinetmaking while embracing the precision of contemporary fabrication: skilled hands, honest materials, exacting joinery, and an attention to detail that extends to every surface, including those rarely seen. We build with the next generation in mind as much as the first, creating interiors intended not merely to last, but to be cared for, adapted, and passed on.
III. INTEGRITY IN EVERY COMMISSION
Working directly with Prospect Woodworks creates a clear relationship between the client, the investment, and the work itself. Every proposal is developed with precision and transparency, allowing resources to be directed toward materials, craftsmanship, and the details that give an interior its lasting value. We establish scope and budget early, advise candidly throughout the process, and consider the efficiencies that emerge when multiple rooms are conceived and built as one commission. The result is not simply greater value, but greater coherence.
IV. INDEPENDENT BY DESIGN
Prospect is led by husband-and-wife founders Ashok and Jessie Childs and supported by a small team composed predominantly of women—an uncommon perspective within the millwork industry. Remaining independent allows us to work closely, communicate directly, and give each project the attention it deserves. That intimacy shapes both the finished work and the experience of creating it: thoughtful, collaborative, and deeply personal.
V. A RELATIONSHIP BEYOND INSTALLATION
Clients work with the same team from the first conversation through design, fabrication, installation, and the final walkthrough. In-person reviews and on-site decisions remain central to the process, ensuring that every detail is resolved by the people responsible for making it. Our involvement does not end when the final door is hung. We stand behind our work and remain available as the home evolves, preserving a relationship built to endure as long as the interiors themselves.
